Note:

This is originally from my previous facebook group ‘India ’08,’ in which I sent messages to friends about my travels with Carpe Diem through India. This post was not originally associated with this blog, but I have put it up here in the correct date. As you can see, my writing is not quite up to par with what it is now 🙂 But I thought you readers would still find it informative and entertaining.

Hi everyone! I feel like it’s been FOREVER since I’ve been on the internet… which is actually true, because I couldn’t send a message in Chandigarh, and I’ve been very sick the past few days in Palampur, throwing up everything… yes I know you all wanted that visual. Thank god for antibiotics. But anyway, I just want to let everyone know that my brother got into BOULDER!!!!!!!! and that has totalllyyyyy made my week 🙂 So today has been a very good day.
Anyway, gosh I haven’t talked to you all since Calcutta? Much has happened… well the last day in Calcutta I worked at KaliGat, at Mother Theresa, which is a center for the destitute and dying… wow. It was one of the most intense experiences of my life. I felt like I couldn’t move for an hour after I left that place, and I just felt numb with shock for the rest of the day.
But it WAS the last day of Calcutta, so we ended up hitting two clubs, a hookah bar and a dance club (for free, because white people in India get all the breaks), and we became great friends with some British people we met in Mother Theresa… Americans definitely need to have gap year.
We then spent three days in Chandigarh for ‘rest,’ which is basically this really posh city in India. We met with some teachers who taught us about Sikhism, meditation, philosophy… very interesting. We also ate at a golf course for free, which was this unimaginable surreal experience, and the food was soo delicious after eating dal and rice for the past month. We spent one day traveling outside of Chandigarh to a small village, and visited some Sikh farmers… and one Sikh farmer made us Sugarcane juice and we watched it being made from scratch, which was amazing to watch and such a surreal experience.
We are now in Palampur, which is right by the Himalayas and honestly the most BEAUTIFUL place I have ever been in my entire life. It is totally, breathtakingly, AMAZING. I’ve been sick for the past few days so I’ve basically been lying in my bed moaning, but now I am feeling better and today I started at a school, teaching English to little kids with Bodhi. We also taught them duck duck goose, which they thought was hilarious, and we played them “Hey Ya” by Outkast and they all started dancing around… the teacher passed by the classroom and gave us a dissaproving glare… by the way the spiders are H.U.G.E. here and I’ve been sort of dying every 15 minutes, which everyone in the group seems to think is hilarious but me. Seriously, they are the biggest spiders I’ve ever seen. In a few days we head to McLeod Ganj for homestays which is going to be really, really crazy.

Palampur. This picture does not do nearly enough justice.

Well that’s all of the news guys, and I really miss everyone a lot, especially the past few days. I hope you all are doing well and are happy. Love you and miss you all,
BrittanyJi
